we’re only fans who don’t know nicole that personally and the problems she goes through. if i told you that all of my interactions with nicole were extremely positive and i don’t take the stories/claims that seriously as a result, would you hold my word above theirs? and why would you hold theirs above mine?Ī lot of people may have had legitimate negative experiences as fans with her, but they only have their own embittered side to a two-sided story. ![]() just like how we have problems, we have positive traits too.Īnd stories like these are anecdotal and only one side of the conversation. I don’t think it’s right to reduce people down purely to their character flaws. Idk if Nicole ever comes here, but if any of this is true, I hope she’s grown as a person It just crushes me that she may be a manipulative, spoiled ghoster. I still love her music (again, the music was never the problem, I just want her to be genuine and an at least decent person), and Hell, I’m even writing a screenplay that I hope to turn into a TV show one day, and one of my ultimate goals would be to have her write music for the show. We all make mistakes, and as far as we know, Nicole only did this stuff (IF she even did it) when she was a lot younger, and the fact that she hasn’t said anything about it doesn’t really mean much to me, it’s in the past and it’s not a super-widely known thing, so why bring it up? I would like to think that if she did make her issues seem worse, and if she really is mean to fans and is a ghoster, that she’s grown since those early days of her career. Now, I don’t even know for a fact if all of these are true, but the stories must come from somewhere, and I still feel fucking crushed by them. it just seemed like to me that at that early point in her career at least, she was making her life seem sad for the sake of gaining sympathy. ![]() I also heard really conflicting stories about her not actually being abused, and then more stories about her overplaying her issues with anorexia, her being mean to fans over tumblr, ghosting young superfans, ghosting people once she’s known them for a while. (I have no serious problems with her lyrical content however, as I feel that she still does portray issues relatively tastefully). To clarify, by fetishizing the struggles of the poor, I meant her aesthetic, and her background there’s something very offputting to me about a girl who grew up in the suburbs of Toronto in a big house who enjoys aesthetics that often involve small, poverty-stricken towns. I found credence in those ideas, and that shit fucking broke me. I wasn’t even bothered by the drug thing (where she supposedly asked fans for drugs such as adderall, weed, and molly (iirc), which really does seem like such a non-issue to me, I don’t get why people were upset with this at all), but what did bother me was the possibility that she exaggerated the issues she had with anorexia and abuse, as well as her being a spoiled rich white girl fetishizing the struggles of the poor. Still, I don’t think it’s worth being that angry over). To clarify, the CP and DDLG stuff didn’t bother me (It wasn’t even real CP, and insulting her for being into DDLG is just kinkshaming), nor the gore or the River Phoenix stuff (obviously that’s weird, but not surprising, the gore stuff at least- there’s nothing wrong with being a River Phoenix fan but I do believe that Nicole took it to a bit of an extreme, with the profile pic thing. which is why I was really upset and honestly heartbroken over those forum posts I read about her. ![]() Needless to say, she’s been my favorite artist for a while now, and has had a big influence on me creatively. Since then, I’ve taken a deep dive into her discography and at one point, I had listened to literally every single song that she had available online (maybe I missed a very old cover or demo here or there, but I believe I was pretty thorough when compiling the list of songs)(also this isn’t something that I did solely for her music, it’s a thing I’ve done for a few other singers/bands that I love), and I was even interested in writing my own songs that were stylistically similar to hers (before my freshman semesters of college swamped me and left me drained), and I believe that my interest in Southern Gothic aesthetics is probably influenced by her. ![]() So, for context, I’m 20 years old, and I’ve been listening to Nicole’s music since I was 16, when I first heard Chapel on that one episode of The Walking Dead.
